Manenberg Street Party Turns Deadly
Written by Caleb Petersen
On Sunday 10 November, isolated shooting incidents in Manenberg led to the loss of multiple lives. This came after a lone gunman fired random shots at a crowd of people early on Sunday morning during a street party in Storms River Walk, which led to the deaths of a 23 year old man and a 17 year old girl with two other men also injured and taken to hospital to receive medical treatment. Later that day the police discovered the body of a 33 year old man with multiple gunshot wounds, who the police identified as Lee Dreyer, the leader of the Americans. It's being claimed that he was killed by his own gang members, because rival gangs would not have been able to come into his territory like that. It's also being claimed that Lee Dreyer was the one that started firing random shots at the crowd of people at the street party and police are still investigating who killed him with no arrests made yet.
When speaking to Bonita Petersen, who has lived in Manenberg all her life I asked her what her thoughts are on the incident that took place and her response was, "it's sad because Manenberg has been quiet for a long time and now all of a sudden there's again an increase in gang violence."
